Russia announced a day of mourning following Friday’s terror attack on Crocus City Hall in Moscow in which 137 were killed and dozens more injured. The attackers used guns and set fire to part of the building.
Isis-Khorasan, a wing of the Islamic State, has claimed responsibility for the attacks via an affiliate news company on Telegram, claims which the White House accept based on US intelligence, but the Kremlin deny.
Vladimir Putin has instead linked the attacks to Ukraine. President Zelensky said it is a ‘miserable person’ who waits a day without appearing to his people to think about how he could blame the attack on Ukraine.
Four suspects have been shown being dragged into court by Russian security with black eyes and other visible signs of beatings and torture. The men, all of whom are thought to be citizens of Tajikistan, were charged with terrorism and remanded in pre-trial custody. They face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
French President Emmanuel Macron seemed to add weight to the probability that this was an Islamic terrorist attack, saying Isis-Khorasan has also attempted multiple attacks on French soil.
The French government has raised its terror alert warning to its highest level following the attacks in Moscow. Meanwhile, the UK’s remains at the middle of its five levels, though Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has warned the UK must ‘remain vigilant’.
